Bulk Recoding with Excel
For larger recoding tasks, Recode can also work with Excel.
Users can prepare their data in bulk, upload it, and review the proposed changes before confirming the operation. This makes Recode suitable for scenarios where many records need to be updated at once.

Here is how a bulk recode looks in practice. In this example, the user asks the agent to recode project codes using an attached Excel file. Before anything is changed, the agent summarises the operation (a bulk recode for Projects with two mappings: 20023 → NEW20023 and 20024 → NEW20024) and asks the user to confirm.
Once the user replies “yes”, the recode is processed and a summary is shown straight away, including how many records were completed and how many failed. In this case, both mappings were completed and none failed.
Below the summary, a results table lists every record with its old code, new code, and status, so the user can verify each change at a glance. The results can also be exported to Excel or copied directly from the chat, which is handy for audit trails or for sharing with colleagues.
